Quantum technologies – the second quantum revolution in Switzerland
Quantum technologies have the potential to deeply impact our industry and society. Using unique features of the quantum world, they allow for secure communication, new and ground breaking ultra-high sensitivity sensors, and, probably, on a ten year time scale, quantum computing. Open letter from the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany to Prime Minister Orbán
The German science organisations are concerned by the plans of the Hungarian government to install new legislation affecting the freedom and autonomy of science in Hungary. In the edition of the newspaper “Die ZEIT” from 27th June, the Hungarian Minister of Innovation defended his government's actions and rejected criticism. Die National Institutes of Health der USA verpflichten Forschende schon seit langer Zeit, die Daten aus Kohortenstudien und Interventionsstudien anderen Forschenden zur Verfügung zu stellen. Das Center for Disease Control and Prevention der USA stellt die Daten des berühmten National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey seit vielen Jahren online zur Verfügung. Die bedenkliche Bürokratisierung der Forschung am Beispiel von Swissmedic
Regulation und Bürokratie nehmen, wie in vielen Bereichen, so auch in der Forschung massiv zu. Konnten klinische Studien am Patienten vor zehn Jahren noch innerhalb weniger Wochen nach Idee und Protokollerstellung begonnen werden, braucht es heute standardisierte Eingaben bei der Ethikkommission, umfangreiche Patienteninformationen und bei Medikamentenstudien zusätzlich eine Begutachtung durch Swissmedic. Dies führt dazu, dass es mittlerweile – gemäss eigener Erfahrung – mindestens ein halbes oder sogar ein ganzes Jahr dauert, bis mit einer klinischen Studie tatsächlich begonnen werden kann.Read more
